WARRINGAH DISABILITY NEWSLETTER No 220 - 23/12/09

Marjorie Janz, Disability Information Officer, Warringah Council has released the above FYI. You can contact her at janzm@warringah.nsw.gov.au

Hello!

The last newsletter of 2009 highlights Sailability in the Australia day Regatta, boccia, indoor cricket, social outings for youth with Aspergers, and the modification of bikes for kids and adults with disability. Not many activities occur for carers within the next several weeks apart from some parenting workshops next year. Financial items include estate planning factsheet, the apprentice bonus, information on family tax benefit and disability trusts, a scholarship for wheelchair users, and Karma gifts.

Your participation is welcomed regarding stories of leaving home, the inquiry into the NSW taxi industry, multi-faith disability inclusion, and homelessness and social skills for people with acquired brain injury. Resources include the tithing tree, weighted blankets, AT magic at ILC, Christmas communication boards, several reports, a source of legal information, and a book on how to deal with Centrelink.

Training includes relationship workshops, professional development at the Institute of Family Practice, a workshop by Ted Smeaton, another by Carers NSW, a list of regional meetings of NDS NSW, and a conference on assistive technology.

Many thanks for your comments and suggestions throughout the year – they were much welcomed and energised the newsletter.

Regards, Marjorie Janz, Disability Information Officer, Warringah Council.
