WARRINGAH DISABILITY NEWSLETTER No 264 - 16/09/11

The newsletter starts with another dance, Carmunity, a Scout group, free aqua fitness sessions, holiday camps, Sydney’s Children’s Festival and information on accessible performances and events.  Young carers can enjoy a day at Luna Park, while parents and carers can attend several useful seminars (supported living, Triple P, dementia awareness) and support.  There is also a survey of carers of people with depression, and new funding for therapy for children to age 6.  Vacancies exist in Transition to Work (with an open day as well), adult day program, and supported employment.

Resources include make-up lessons, online documents (Stronger Together, and Life My Way), an expanded Men’s shed, anxiety groups, R U Ok day, a moving documentary, some holiday ideas, accessible podiatry clinics, resources for Carers Week.  Financial matters include several fundraising events (a glass event, walking 10,000 steps, dinner, movie screening, boot sale and pony rides), the Supported Accommodation Innovation Fund, ADIPEF grants, a Toyota Hiace for sale.  Disability Support workers are needed by Flintwood and House With No Steps.  You are invited to participate in the bicycle ride for Retina Australia, a neighbourhood support program, the JUMP program for young artists, a health discussion, nominating a member for the NSW Disability Council, and Young carer activities.

Workshops address senior drivers, the brain, horticultural training, supporting adolescents with hearing loss, sign language, computing, stress and anxiety, professional supervision, behavioural incidents, creating a better life for people with disability.  There are also several conferences, professional development short courses, and applications for the Summer Stepping into work experience.

Your comments and suggestions are welcome, as always!  The next newsletter will be sent on 30 September.
