WARRINGAH DISABILITY NEWSLETTER No 233- - 13/07/10

The newsletter starts with a reminder about Disability Rocks, another NARA disco;  then sport (indoor soccer, boccia, bowling, sitting volleyball), a camp.  The arts include dance group vacancies, Sunnyfield work, radio skills workshop, events at Magnolia Centre.  There is also information on official opening of the expanded Pioneer Clubhouse and a get together at BIA.  Carers are invited to a fathers evening session, a new parent support program, Triple P parenting workshops, counselling and support groups, and a workshop on building a positive vision for people with developmental disability.  There are four events regarding education and employment for young people with disabilities.

Grants are on offer regarding sport and athlete development, mental health, the DISmyABILITY campaign, mental health NGO infrastructure.  Carers can benefit from several payments and money-saving programs.  An apartment vacancy, Jeans for Genes Day, second hand equipment for people with vision impairment, and a fundraiser for ACD NSW complete the financial section.  Resources include a newsletter, a book, a website, as well as a school food garden program and submission on family violence.  Your participation is invited regarding the next 5 years of disability services, Siblings Australia, the Mental Health Matters awards and the 2010 National Disability Awards, and a workshop on transforming campaigns.

Workshops and meetings involve angry adolescents, young carers, Makaton, rights, family law, working with aggression, understanding disability, a ground-breaking schizophrenia trial, eye health, suicide intervention, social role valorisation, the regional NDS network, courses for HACC staff and volunteers.  Conferences focus on having fun, family quality of life, mental health.
