Today’s newsletter starts with the annual surfing at Collaroy, another discobility, an exercise program, guided tours at the Conservatorium of Music, learning about sea life at Dee Why Beach, a holiday camp, activities at Lane Cove’s youth centre, the Walk around the World challenge, and a workshop on relationship skills. Young carers can get some gym memberships and apply for the Young Carer Leadership Program. CanTeen has a group for young women whose parent died of cancer. Carers are invited to a casual group for fathers, several playgroups for vision impaired children, some parent support groups, the Triple P program. Also, families are invited to hear more about the Supported Living Fund, Choice and Control, and Circles of Support. A position exists at CNS for an electronic assembly employee.
Financial matters include a smoke alarm subsidy for people with serious hearing impairment, a reminder to register with RIAP, the Project Local community grant, the ClubGRANTS (formerly CDSE), Ability Links, and the Fighting Chance celebrity Cricket Day. Resources include an online social network (the travelling chair), reports on the impact of ageing and a youth survey, resources from Siblings Australia, two Apps, and the ABS report on Disability Ageing and Carers 2009. Your participation is invited in the 2012 Other Film Festival, sessions on mental health or drug and alcohol issues, feedback from parents with depression/anxiety, nominating someone for Disability Industry Innovators.
Workshops address technology / computer skills, web accessibility, medication management, challenging behaviour, depression, engaging young people, grief – loss – change, younger onset dementia, person centred planning. Several conferences focus on Arts activated, assistive technology, opportunities for full lives, employment for people with disability. The Book of Life celebrates organ donors. Service providers are reminded about the NDS / ADHC regional meeting, the Financial Implication regional meetings, the Mental Health Community Forum / Expo, and the Child and Family Expo in Willoughby . Training is offered by the Ombudsman and the Centre for Community Welfare.
